Welcome to the CHI Grad Fellowship Program, here is your “day one” check list. Please complete within a day of receiving your fellowship acceptance:
1. Join the CHI Community Chat. You will all have received an email invite to the channel itself. Please do not share this link with anyone else. The Mattermost instance (which is the chat platform we're using) is currently hanging off of a non-MSU H-Net server, you are in the right place even though the domain isn't CHI. You're welcome to use your MSU email to set up your account, but just be warned that you might run into problems if you need to reset your password. Gillian (via H-Net's server maintainer) can reset passwords for you. You can use the desktop or the app version. You will get an email inviting you to the channel. Please click on this link for future access.
2. If you don't already have one please create a GitHub account and then follow the CHI account linked here. Once you've created your Github account, sign up for the Github Student Developer Pack. The Student Developer Pack has free tools and services that will become useful during the fellowship, and its best to sign up for them now.
3. Create a Codeacademy account.
4. Submit the Day One Checklist Form (when prompted, sign in with your MSU credentials). Fill out the Day One Checklist Form within one week of accepting the fellowship.
5.Start on the summer checklist.
If you are a Senior CHI Fellow, your Day One checklist is slightly different.
1. If you haven't already, join the CHI Community Chat (see the info above on how)
2. Set up a meeting with Maddie and Gillian before 8/23/25
Thats basically it. If you want to refresh yourself on some of the baseline stuff required of all CHI Fellows (which you've already completed)…such as the Codecademy or Github tutorials, you're welcome to…but it isn't required of Senior Fellows.
